FAQs

DO I HAVE TO BOOK?
We recommend you book, as class numbers are limited for your safety and comfort so we advise advanced booking to avoid disappointment.

I AM A BEGINNER WHAT CLASSES SHOULD I ATTEND?
We have a variety of beginners classes. These are clearly marked on our schedule of classes. If you are unable to attend a beginners Yoga course then any of our ‘all levels’ classes will be suitable however it is essential that you arrive early and inform the instructor that you are new.  Tai-Chi classes are open to all abilities.

HOW MUCH IS A CLASS?
If you buy in advance prices are between £5.50 and £7.50 per class. If you drop in and pay on the day prices are £7 for a 60 minute class, £8 for a 75 minute class and £9 for a 90 minute class.

CAN I BUY A BOOK OF CLASSES?
Yes. There are discounts if you book and pay for 10 classes in advance. Prices depend on the length of the class – prices start at £5.50 for an hour.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO BRING ?
None at all. Here at Shambhala we will provide you with clean mats, blocks of varying sizes, straps, bolsters, blankets and eye bags etc. You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you prefer.

WHAT SHALL I WEAR?
Loose, comfortable clothes. Only bare feet or socks are allowed in the studio.

CAN I CHANGE AT SHAMBHALA?
Yes, we provide lockers and storage in which to hang your clothes and stow away bags and shoes. Also we provide a screened off area to change should you need to. Space is limited and we would encourage you wherever possible to arrive in suitable clothing to start your class. Unfortunately there are no facilities to shower.

CAN I PARK NEAR BY?
Yes but, as in all towns, parking can be difficult. We would strongly encourage you to walk or take public transport wherever possible. If you do need to drive why not ask others in your class if you can car share? There is limited non restricted parking on the streets around the studio. In particular Leighcliff Road, Grand Parade and Grand Drive often have spaces however please be courteous to our neighbours and allow extra time to get here.

CAN I EAT BEFORE CLASS?
Do not eat a large meal for four hours before a class. It is fine to have a light meal two hours before and a snack one hour before. Leigh has a vibrant café culture for you to enjoy after classes. We would recommend waiting 30 minutes to eat. Water is available in the reception area.

IS SHAMBHALA A RELIGIOUS CENTRE?
No. We are a spiritual centre but are not affiliated to any religion and welcome all faiths.

IS THERE DISABLED ACCESS?
Unfortunately the building is unsuitable for wheelchair access. Our studio is on the first floor and access involves climbing stairs. If this presents a problem for you please contact us to discuss your concerns further.

WILL YOU BE HOLDING WOMEN ONLY CLASSES?
We have tried to make our classes all inclusive, however we welcome your suggestions. If you would like Women only classes or have any other ideas please let us know using our suggestions and comments page.
