Yoga Therapy

"Lisa Horwell"My journey into Yoga as therapy-

I have met many clients through group classes who were struggling with specific health conditions or emotional issues and, due to the nature of a group class, could not be given the tailor-made yoga practise that a 1-2-1 yoga therapy session offers.

I made a decision to find the best ‘yoga therapy’ course I could find and luckily got offered a place at Yogacampus with reputable yoga therapists like Dr. Ruth Gilmore and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli. I am now working at the first yoga clinic of its kind at The Life Centre Islington. Yoga therapy is a self-care approach to wellness, guided and supported by a yoga therapist with a lot more emphasis on the clients condition. Yoga therapy is the personalised application of yoga techniques to fit the current needs and interests of the individual. It is an integrated mind-body approach for restoring balance and adaptive functioning to the physical (musculoskeletal), physiological (digestion, respiration, cardiovascular, endocrine and immune), and mental/emotional systems. Yoga therapy may be used to:

* reduce symptoms of illness or injury
* establish more functional breath and movement patterns
* reduce physical and mental suffering
* improve quality of life
* enhance positive coping strategies.

No previous experience of yoga is necessary.

I am really excited about working at Shambhala. I am a very gratefulyogi who has been totally empowered by yoga!
